Track & Field starts practice

By John Earp

This past Monday on the field of Panther Stadium, the Jal High School Track & Field Team began practice for the spring season. About 50 total athletes showed up for the first practice. Head Coach “Bubba” Ross said there were still quite a few athletes that are playing basketball right now, who will join the track team once basketball season is over, as well as quite a few sixth graders who have yet to get their physical exams. Ross says he has several athletes returning from last year, and says the returning girls’ medley team will be strong this year. Athletes are required to play both track and baseball or track and softball. Ross says the team is trying to “keep the vibe alive,” and that “track has such an ugly rep.” Assisting with the track team are Coaches Schanhals, Nieto, Navarette, and Mitchell.
