Street projects, skate park, and new water well being drilled

By John Earp

In the March 25th meeting of the Jal City Council, City Manager Wesley Hooper gave his monthly report. He began by saying, “The 2022 Road Projects was West Wyoming, East Wyoming, and Ocho. The major work has been completed. We’re just waiting on street signs, posts, and striping on West Wyoming. 2023 TPF, Arizona between 7th and 8th we’ve got it down to the subgrade. We weren’t supposed to have utilities within that project, but once we peeled everything back and got into it we’ve got a water main and a gas line that we’re going to need to lower in that street. Oklahoma we’ve got to put the concrete, which is the curb, the gutter, and the handicapped ramp. On the skate park, it’s coming together real well. Lasco’s supposed to be pouring the 50 x 50 slab for the shelter and also for the basketball courts. Should be done in about two weeks, those slabs should be poured, and then all the steel for those shade structures over the basketball and the smaller shade structure, it’s all here. We’ve just got to get the slab poured and everything. Then, American Ramp, they should be completed today with the ramp. I don’t know if they got that done, but they said that they should have that done today. The exterior of the fire department, it’s been kind of put on hold. We’re waiting, we’ve got to move a gas line before we pour the slab and replace some of the sheeting and do the painting. We’re waiting on CES right now for a PO to get a contractor for a plumber to come in and move that gas line. Van talked to you about Continental. It’s kind of a pain, but once we’re done with it, it’ll be good for years to come. That’s all I’ve got.”

Mayor Aldridge asked if he was going to talk about the water line. He said, “Last week, section 17, the new well, the drillers were down last week and we held them up. We wanted to enlarge the pad size to give them some more room so that they weren’t just smashed in there. We wanted to make sure that they had plenty of room and don’t have any mistakes or issues while they’re drilling. So we pulled them off, got Ramirez in there. They extended that pad so they’ve got plenty of room. They just completed that today, and so as the mayor said, the drillers will be back drilling on that well and then as soon as that’s completed, they’ll move over to well 4 and start drilling there. Aldridge added that well 4 is a new well in section 17, which has had some downhole issues.
