STEAM program provides hands-on learning opportunities using arts and crafts.

By John Earp

Tuesday night at Jal Elementary, 2nd and 3rd graders worked on projects that included building turkey traps and disguising a turkey. No actual turkeys were harmed in the process. Mrs. Butts said the teachers held a STEAM crafting session for the students in October as well, building things like catapults and bridges, and said the 4th and 5th graders will participate on another day. She said the STEAM program is just getting started, with activities scheduled for a couple weeks out of each month. Teachers who are leading the STEAM sessions include Ms. Welch, Ms. Trevino, Ms. Butts, Ms. Albright and Ms. Martinez.
