Richard Steven Pittam

Richard Steven Pittam, age 75, of Jal, NM passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in Carlsbad, NM. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Jal, NM to Irwin Marcus and Bernice Elizabeth (Stevens) Pittam. Richard married Joyce Marie Smith on July 11, 1970 in Jal, NM and they shared 55 wonderful years together.

Richard enjoyed arrowhead hunting, being outdoors, and his 57 Chevy. He loved football; especially the Washington Redskins, but he passionately hated the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a New York Yankees fan. Richard dearly loved his family and he will be greatly missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Irwin and Bernice Pittam; sisters: Joan Roberts and Judy Lee; and brother: Bernie Pittam.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Pittam of Jal, NM; son: John Curtis Pittam and wife Daana of Artesia, NM; daughter: Tracy Marie Baten and husband Ara of Levelland, TX; brothers: Harry Pittam and wife Verna of Lovington, NM and Dennis Pittam of Makawao, HI; sisters: Luetta Hunt and Elizabeth Pittam, both of El Paso, TX; grandchildren: Zane and fiancé Shelby, Allen and spouse Perri, Zaac and spouse Haley, Kelly, and Za’Leigh; and great-grandchildren: Blakely, Morgan, and Kohen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Jal Club, PO Box 778, Jal, NM 88252.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
