Powerlifters Rank at State Level

The Jal Panthers Powerlifting Team traveled to Lovington last Saturday to compete in their first meet of the season against teams from Tatum and Lovington.

After their first meet in Lovington, Leilene Chavez now ranks 1st in the 165-pound girls’ classification, with a squat of 200, a bench press of 115, and a deadlift of 250, for a total of 565. Yahaira Amaro did not place, as she failed to successfully complete the bench press. She did however squat 135 pounds and deadlift 190 pounds. Ebany Aguilar squatted 265, bench pressed 110, and deadlifted 280 pounds for a total of 665, which places her in 2nd place in the state in the 220-pound weight class. Issela Mendoza squatted 230 pounds, bench pressed 130 pounds, and deadlifted 280 pounds for a total of 650 pounds, placing her in 3rd place in 220 weight class.

Jayden Walker ranks 2nd in the state in his 181-pound weight class, with a squat of 320 pounds, deadlift of 320 pounds and a total of 720 pounds. Jesus Munoz, in the 114-pound weight class, squatted 150 pounds, bombed out on bench press, and deadlifted 215 pounds, a bench press of 160 pounds, a deadlift of 400 pounds, and a total of 880 pounds. Luis Lujan is ranked 4th in state in the 220-pound weight class with a squat of 255 pounds, bench press of 195 pounds, and deadlift of 260 pounds, for a total of 710 pounds. Emilio Carranza is ranked 3rd in state in the 242-pound weight class, with a squat of 250 pounds, bench press of 155 pounds, and deadlift of 320 pounds, for a total of 725 pounds.
