
Panther Powerlifters Improving

The Jal Panthers Powerlifting Team hosted the Eunice Cardinals in its first-ever powerlifting meet this past Saturday morning in the Panther Weight room. Most of the Panther Powerlifters improved on their lifts over the previous meet.
After this past Saturday’s meet, Leilene Chavez now ranks 2nd in the 165-pound girls’ classification, with a squat of 215 (an increase of 15 pounds over the January 17th Lovington meet), a bench press of 115, and a deadlift of 260 (up 10 pounds from the previous meet) for a total of 590 pounds.
Yahaira Amaro is now ranked 14th in the state in the 132-pound weight class, with a squat of 150 (15 pounds over the previous meet), bench press of 80, and deadlift of 195, for a total of 425 pounds.
Ebany Aguilar squatted 280 (up 15 pounds from the last meet), bench pressed 115 (up 5 pounds from the last meet), and deadlifted 275 pounds (down 5 pounds from the last meet) for a total of 670, which places her in 4th place in the state in the 220-pound weight class.
Issela Mendoza squatted 250 pounds (up 20 pounds from the last meet), bench pressed 130 pounds, and deadlifted 260 pounds (down 20 pounds from the last meet) for a total of 640 pounds, placing her in 4th place in state in the 220-pound weight class.
Jayden Walker now ranks 5th in the state in his 181-pound weight class, with a squat of 345 pounds (up 25 from the January 17th meet in Lovington), deadlift of 435 pounds (up 115 pounds from the last meet) and a bench press of 175 pounds for a total of 955.
Jesus Munoz, in the 114-pound weight class, squatted 190 pounds (up 40 pounds from the January 17th meet) bench pressed 135 pounds, and deadlifted 230 pounds (up 15 pounds from last meet), for a total of 555 pounds. Munoz now is ranked 2nd in the state in his weight class.
Luis Lujan dropped from 4th to 14th in the state in the 220-pound weight class with a squat of 270 pounds (up 25 pounds from the last meet), bench press of 200 pounds, up 5 pounds from his last meet, and a deadlift of 270 pounds, up 10 pounds from his last meet.
Emilio Carranza dropped from 3rd in state to 17th in the 242-pound weight class, with a squat of 250 pounds, bench press of 155 pounds, and deadlift of 320 pounds (all the same as last time) for a total of 725 pounds.
Trypp Taylor is ranked 20th in state in the 198-pound weight class, with a squat of 255, a bench press of 198, and a deadlift of 270, for a total of 770 pounds.
Uriel Ward is ranked 16th in state in the 242-pound weight class, with a squat of 250, a bench press of 185, and a deadlift of 310, for a total of 745 pounds.
David Gaytan is ranked 7th in the state in the 198-pound weight class, with a squat of 315, a bench press of 215, and a deadlift of 335, for a total of 865 pounds.
In the Team Results, the Eunice Cardinals took first place in the meet with 55 points to Jal’s 36.
The JHS Powerlifting Team is headed up by Coaches Brent and Kami Satterwhite. Brent says the team did well, and are showing improvement. He expressed confidence that the lifters who put in the work and get sufficient rest, recovery and nutrition over the next couple weeks will improve on their lifts at the next scheduled meet in Hobbs February 28th. He also commended the parents and members of the community who came out to the meet and were both respectful and helpful.
