Panther Powerlifters Aguilar and Bustillos 1st in state

The Jal High School Powerlifting Team traveled to Rio Rancho last week for the NMAA State Powerlifting Meet, with two JHS lifters, Ebany Aguilar and Gerardo Bustillos, taking 1st place in state in their respective gender and weight class. Below are the final standings of the Panther Powerlifters, including those who did not qualify to compete in the state meet.

Emily Acosta, lifting in the 97-lb weight class, tied for 5th place in class 1A/2A/3A, with a squat of 100, bench press of 60, and a deadlift of 150, for a total of 310. Valeria Acosta, lifting in the 105-lb weight class, placed 4th, with a squat of 135, a bench press of 60 and a deadlift of 190, for a total of 385 lbs. She also placed 11th in the 114-lb weight class with a squat of 140, a bench press of 55, and a deadlift of 180 for a total of 375. Amyrra Stone, lifting in the 105-lb weight class, placed 11th, with a bench press of 55, a squat of 95, and a deadlift of 75, for a total of 225.

Anna Ross, lifting in the 132-lb weight class, placed 5th, with a squat of 180, bench press of 95, and a deadlift of 270, for a total of 545. Aaliyah Roberson, lifting in the same class, placed 8th, with a squat of 165, a bench press of 100, and a deadlift of 230, for a total of 495 lbs. Ross also competed in the 148-lb class, placing 6th, with a squat of 180, bench press of 90, and a deadlift of 230, for a total of 500 lbs. Powerlifters are allowed to compete in more than one class, though their weight on the day of the meet must be below the maximum for their lowest weight class. April Peugh placed 15th in the 181-lb class, with a bench press of 90, a squat of 190, and a deadlift of 200, for a total of 480 lbs. Peugh also lifted in the 198-lb class, placed 9th, with a squat of 180, bench of 90, and deadlift of 215, for a total of 485 lbs.

Ebany Aquilar, lifting in the 198-lb class, took first place, with a squat of 275, a bench press of 105, and a deadlift of 255, for a total of 635 lbs. Aquilar also placed 2nd in the 259-lb class, with a squat of 285, bench of 90, and deadlift of 275, for a total 650 lbs. Issela Mendoza placed 10th in the 198-lb class, with a squat of 150, bench of 85, and deadlift of 225, for a total of 46o lbs. Bianca Eddings, lifting in the 220-lb class, placed 3rd, with a squat of 250, bench of 120, and deadlift of 255, for a total of 625 lbs. Caydence Rodriguez, also competing in the 220-lb weight class, placed 7th, with a squat of 225, bench of 105, and deadlift of 235, for a total of 565 lbs.

On the boys’ side, Gerardo Bustillos took first place in the 114-lb weight class, with a squat of 215, bench of 135 and a deadlift of 300 lbs., for a total of 650 lbs. Luis Navarette placed 13th in the 114-lb class, with a squat of 140, bench of 100, and deadlift of 230, for a total of 470 lbs. Gabriel Earp, lifting in the 132-lb class, placed 9th, with a squat of 260, bench of 185 and deadlift of 315, for a total of 760 lbs. Elijah Chavez placed 6th in the 220-lb weight class, with a squat of 395, bench of 255 and deadlift of 465, for a total of 1115 lbs. Juan Maldonado placed 14th in the 242-lb class, with a squat of 315, bench of 200, and deadlift of 405, for a total of 960 lbs. Xavier Villa placed 6th in the superheavyweight class, with a squat of 350, bench of 205 and a deadlift of 405, for a total of 960 lbs.
