Lea County, N.M., regained the top spot for count of active drilling rigs in Permian Basin as of June 30 at the end of the third quarter.  Baker Hughes said Lea added 7 rigs in the past week for a new total of 56.  The previous leader, Eddy, N.M., lost 6 rigs in the past week to fall to 50.  Other Permian leaders are Martin with 43 (down 2), Midland with 36 (up 2), Reeves with 34 (down 3), Loving with 22 (unchanged) and Ward with 18 (up 1).  Unchanged in the past week are Reagan and Upton with 13 each and Andrews with 11.

Permian Basin reported 341 rigs for the second straight week (349 year ago), and New Mexico led producing states by adding 2 rigs for a new total of 108 (112 year ago).  Rig count in U.S. fell for the ninth straight week to 674 (682 previous week, 750 year ago).

Permian Basin started 2023 with 353 rigs and started second quarter with 352 rigs.

Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 43 rigs (47 previous week, 64 year ago) followed by Oklahoma with 40 (42 previous week, 60 year ago).  And Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 61 rigs (up 1) followed by Haynesville with 44 (down 6), Marcellus with 35 (unchanged) and Williston with 34 (down 1).
