Lady Panthers on Fire Tuesday

Tuesday in the Panther Gym, the Jal High School Varsity Lady Panthers mopped the court with the Pecos Lady Eagles, delivering a resounding 54-14 win in their season opener. The first quarter was basically a defensive slog, with the Lady Panthers pulling ahead 6-2 by the end of that period. The Lady Panthers’ offensive game finally caught fire in the second period, pulling ahead 21-4 by halftime. The third period was a bit more subdued for the Lady Panthers, with the score being 37-14 at the end of that period. In the final period, the Lady Panthers really turned up the heat, gaining 17 points while preventing the Lady Eagles from scoring at all. Final score was 54-14.

Mayrin Nieto led the Lady Panthers in scoring for the night, with a blockbusting 27 points. Karisma Rodriguez scored 7, while Kaedyn Lujan and Johnna Butts both scored 6 points. Natalia Rivera, Aaliyah Navarette, Paetyn Lujan, Itzell Ramirez, and Abigail Dardon each scored 2.
