JJHS Lady Panthers beat Lady Falcons

By John Earp

Last Thursday afternoon in Loving, the Jal Junior High Blue Lady Panthers took on the Loving Lady Falcons after the JJHS Yellow Team had handily beaten the Lady Falcons. The Blue Team was well matched against Loving early on, with the lead going back and forth. At one point, the Lady Panthers led 8-4. Loving came back and tied the game up at 10. The Lady Panthers pulled ahead 18-16 with some good volleys and serves. The Lady Falcons started to falter in their returns, allowing Jal to pull ahead for their biggest lead of the game, 22-17. Timeout was called by Coach Sasha Navarrette. The Lady Panthers gave up a point with a flubbed return, but then got the point and the ball back after a very long volley back and forth. With the score being 24-18, Loving failed to return a Jal serve. Final score of the first game was 25-13.

The Lady Panthers kept up their momentum going into the second game, while the Lady Falcons kept making mistakes. After just a few minutes of play, Jal led 9-0. A flubbed serve by number 1 ended the streak, giving a point to Loving. The Panthers got right back on track though, giving up only two points over the next several minutes while scoring 6. Loving continued to stumble, never really being quite up to it, while the Lady Panthers continued to play on their terms. Final score of the second game was 25-5, with the Lady Panthers winning the 2-out-of-three match.

After winning at Dora Tuesday night, the Junior High Lady Panthers will play at Artesia next Tuesday.
