JJHS Girls Track Take 1st at District Meet

This past Monday at the SEC Track Meet in Loving, the Jal Junior High Track Team Girls took first place, while the Boys’ Team took fifth. Coach Victor Soliz says all his athletes showed improvement this season, and gives credit to the Girls’ Coach, Sasha Navarette, for all the hard work she has put in to making her team the best they could be this season. “They did awesome,” said Soliz. He said even though the Boys didn’t place well, there was only an 11-point difference been the 2nd through 5th place teams’ total scores, so it was a very tight competition. The Panthers competed against teams from across the region, including Eunice, Hagerman, Loving, Tatum, Cloudcroft, and Dexter.

On the Girls’ side, Claire Seifts took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.13 and first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.08. Jolea Nash took 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 20.74 and 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.27. Syndee Navarette took 5th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 21.93.

The Girls’ 4×100-meter Relay Team took first place with a time of 56.77. The Girls’ 4×200-meter Relay Team took 2nd place with a time of 2:08.24. Jal Girls took 2nd in the 4×400-meter relay, with a time of 4:55.47.

Kaedyn Lujan took 1st place in the long jump with a distance of 14-10. Aaliyah Navarette took 5th place in long jump, with a distance of 13-3, and Ixareli Rodriguez took 6th with a distance of 12-7. Bianca Gallegos placed 4th in the shot put, with a distance of 19-11, and placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 57-1.5. Alyssa Cervantes took 1st place in pole vault at 7-0, while Addilyn Fabela took 2nd at 6-0. Soliz said, “Those girls have really come a long way this year.” Kynzie Sauceda took 7th place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 8:27.05.

On the Boys’ side, Eloy Barrera took 2nd with a time of 12.88. Zaine Vega took 4th place with a time of 13.49, and Jayden Walker took 5th with a time of 13.54. Emmy Zavala took 5th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.70. Kai Porras took 6th place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:59.24. Miguel Ramirez took 5th place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:50.09. Jayden Maldonado took 6th place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 22.48.

In the 4×100-meter relay, the Jal Boys’ Team took 2nd place with a time of 51.84. Jal took 1st place in the Boys’ 4×200-meter relay (Zaine Vega, David Hernandez, Jayden Maldonado, and Eloy Barrera), with a time of 1:49.57. The team consisting of (Emmy Zavala, David Hernandez, Jayden Walker and Landon Edwards) took 2nd place in the 4×400-meter relay finals, with a time of 4:26.44. Emmy Zavala took 2nd place in the high jump, with a mark of 4-10. Landon Edwards took 4th place with a mark of 4-4, and Axel Aguirre took 6tyh with a mark of 4-4. Santiago Trevizo took 2nd place in the pole vault finals, with a personal record jump of 8-0. Landon Edwards took 5th place with a mark of 7-6. Jayden Walker took 4th place in the discus, with a throw of 89-3.25.
