JHS Cheer takes 1st in Las Cruces
By John Earp
This past weekend at the New Mexico State Cheer Spirit Championship, held on the campus of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, the Jal High School Cheer Team won first place in Cheer with Music in the 2A-3A division. Teams from across the state competed in the championship, with Jal competing against Tularosa, Capitan, and St. Michael’s. The Jal girls have two more competitions this year, followed by the state championship. This past weekend was the second time JHS Cheer won first place at a cheer competition, the first time being in Clovis. Coach Katia Martinez says she is proud of her girls and has seen her team improving all year long.
