Fire Dept Conducts Fire Inspections

By John Earp

Wednesday, the Jal Fire/EMS Department conducted free fire inspections of the physical buildings owned by Calvary Baptist Church and of those owned by the Church of God. Fire Captain Joe Cole set up the inspections, which he says the department tries to perform yearly on all local businesses and nonprofits such as churches. The inspection included a physical inspection of the buildings and premises, inspection of fire extinguishers, and questions relating to fire safety, such as the location of natural gas lines, attics, and so forth.

Cole says if the town’s businesses and churches all are found to have excellent inspections showing these local properties to be safe, the Insurance Service Office (a key organization in the insurance industry that provides statistical, actuarial, and underwriting information, helping insurers standardize policies and assess risks) will lower insurance rates across the board for businesses and nonprofit organizations in that municipality. Accompanying Cole on the inspections today were Firefighter/AEMT Shelby Guinn along with EMS driver and EMS student, Caiden Bennett.
