Employee banquet a circus

By John Earp

Jal School District hosted its annual employee banquet in the Junior High Gym this past Monday evening. The event was circus-themed, with employees participating in several entertaining games and activities for prizes, such as a carnival-like basketball toss game, “Let’s Make a Deal,” and miniature golf. Gift certificates were provided by Iron Horse Grille, Mamacita’s Restaurant, El Rinconcito Enchilado, and Cole’s Diner.

A talented artist was available at the event for employees who wanted to have their caricatures drawn. Also, a balloon twister fashioned many unique balloon animals for school employees. To top it all off, Superintendent Brian Snider posed as a circus ringmaster, complete with a long bullwhip.

Employees who were recognized for five years of service to the district included Jade Hinds, Isidra Juarez, Amber Valeriano, Kristi Sauceda, and Adela Saenz. Recognized for ten years’ service were Terri Ragland, Bretta Thompson, Aime Rodriguez, Emmy Lujan and John Earp. Three employees were recognized for fifteen years of service: Brian Snider, Leticia Segovia, and Dusty Loftis. Veronica Burns was recognized for twenty years of service. Vincent Homer was recognized for his retirement. Homer has only been working for Jal Schools for a year, but is taking the 90-day retirement option and will return to work at JHS next fall. Bobby Burkett was recognized for his retirement after 26 years of service as maintenance supervisor. Employees were treated to food provided by Cole’s Diner, including sliders, hot dogs, and nachos.
