Earp to work at camp in England

By John Earp

Chloe Earp, 2021 Jal High School graduate and a 2023 graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, will be spending six weeks in England beginning this week. She will be working with a camping and outdoor adventure organization called Rock UK, a Christian charity with a stated goal of developing young people, bringing adventure into learning in the outdoors, and transforming lives. Some of the many activities included in the Rock UK camping experience include rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, zip lining, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and many more. The charity, which has been around since 1922, offers many of its camping adventures free of charge or at a reduced rate based on individual need.

Chloe has always wanted to travel the world, and sees this as her first chance to really do that. She says she found out about the opportunity through a program called Worldpackers, an organization that connects people that want to travel with hosts in different countries, especially volunteer workers. She says she liked the idea of working in England, since there would be no language barrier. When she looked into the Rock UK camping/adventure program, she said, “I thought that would be great.” She raised the funds to finance the trip primarily through bake sales.

Chloe planned to travel on Wednesday the 4th of September from Midland, Texas to Dallas, and from Dallas to London, England. She was a bit nervous about the trip, but also excited. She looked forward to a busy time working at the campground outside of Northampton, England. She also plans to travel a bit when she has time while she is there, and looks forward to connecting with new people and growing in her faith. She hopes to possibly continue working through Worldpackers after her time is completed with Rock UK, but says that “everything is still up in the air right now.”
