Cheryl was born on March 7, 1956, in Canyon, Texas, to Anita and Alvis Ford. She graduated from Jal High School and later attended college in Las Cruces, New Mexico. While working for the same company in Midland, Texas, Cheryl met the love of her life, Jerry Richardson. The two were married on May 16, 1987, beginning a marriage filled with love, family, and devotion to one another. Together, they welcomed two children, Katie and Tyler. After starting their family, Cheryl and Jerry lived in Sayre, Oklahoma, before making their home in Wheeler, Texas, in 1996.
Cheryl dedicated many years to serving the children and families of the Wheeler community through her work at the school. She held several positions throughout the years, including working in pre-kindergarten, special education, and the cafeteria. No matter what role she held, Cheryl had a gift for making people feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. Her faith was a central part of Cheryl’s life. She was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Wheeler, where she served others in countless ways. She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher and was especially known for preparing and providing meals for church members and the community during times when people needed support. Her love was often expressed through a meal, a helping hand, or simply being there when someone needed her.
Cheryl also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for several years, giving her time and compassion to make sure others in her community were cared for. Helping people was not simply something Cheryl did—it was a reflection of who she was.
Cheryl’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jerry Richardson of Wheeler, TX; her daughter, Katie Salas, and her husband, Joe of Bushland, TX; her son, Tyler Richardson, and his wife, Lauren of Inola, OK; and her four beloved grandchildren, Brice, 10, Eli, 9, and twins Liam and Luke, 7. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and the love she had for them will continue through the memories they carry with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Alvis Ford; her sister, Jody; and her brother, David.
Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and family. She gave freely of herself to others and found joy in caring for the people around her. Her kindness could be found in the classroom, at church, around the dinner table, and most of all, within her own home. Though she will be deeply missed, Cheryl’s love will live on in her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her years. Her family takes comfort in knowing that the love she gave so freely will continue to be carried forward by those who were blessed to know her.
