Chapman runner up in Lea County Spelling Bee

This past Tuesday night, at the Lea County Spelling Bee, Jal Elementary 5th grader Kelley Chapman placed second (runner up), and will represent Jal Schools and Lea County at the state spelling bee in Albuquerque. According to a Hobbs School District Facebook post, Chapman will join Second Alternate, Laine Kobaly of Sanger Elementary and Champion Mariah Mojica of Houston Middle School in Albuquerque for the New Mexico State Spelling Bee later this spring to represent Lea County. The Jal Schools Facebook page had a post recognizing Chapman for her achievement, saying, “We are so very proud of her. Great Job Kelley! Go Get State!”
