Carroll Leavell met his heavenly Father on June 26, 2023. He was born October 23, 1936 in Center, NM (a farm area outside Clovis, NM) to Clyde and Mabel Leavell. They later moved to Jal in 1940.
He married Bobbie Brummett on December 27, 1957 in El Paso, TX, where they began their journey and adventures in life together. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters; Terri Poe and husband Jerry and Kim Fulfer and husband Gregg.
Carroll graduated from Jal High School in 1954. Carroll graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1958. Carroll owned and operated Leavell Insurance & Real Estate from 1964 – 2000. He came back to Jal from Lubbock, TX to take over the agency, which his dad had established in 1948. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was very active within the church. He was also involved in many other organizations: Chamber of Commerce, Jal Country Club, Lions Club, New Mexico Jaycees, New Mexico National Guard, American Legion, New Mexico Amigos, and Gideons New Mexico Independent Insurance. Carroll served on Woolworth Trust and as a New Mexico State Senator from 1997-2018. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and golfing with family and friends.
Those left to love and cherish his memories are his wife: Bobbie Leavell; daughters: Terri Poe and husband Jerry and Kim Fulfer and husband Gregg; brother: Larry Leavell and wife Carolyn; sister: Clydene Ernest and husband Dennis; brother-in-law: Jack Brummett and wife Donna; grandchildren: Justin McWilliams and wife Kristin, Derryn McWilliams and wife Jessica, Kristin Abel and husband Cody, Kayla Lujan and husband Emmy, and Danielle Bradbury and husband Cameron; great-great grandchildren: Haylee Abel, Stratten Abel, Stetsen Abel, Saxten Abel, Jacob Lujan, Zadyn Lujan, Kaedyn Lujan, Taylor Brown, Deklyn McWilliams, Keely McWilliams, Griffin McWilliams, Macy McWilliams, Mallory McWilliams, Brooks Bradbury, and Emmarie Bradbury; niece: Catherine Tabor and husband Russell; nephews: Wesley Leavell and wife Patricia, Charles Haney and wife Cindy, Ray Haney, and Shawn Haney; great-nieces and nephews: Carly Garrett, Graham Haney and Aubrey Taylor and son Zakai; and many friends
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am MST on Friday, June 30, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Jal, NM, officiated by Bob Haddox who will be assisted by Monte Leavell. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow at Jal Cemetery. Pallbearers are Justin McWilliams, Derryn McWilliams, Cody Abel, Emmy Lujan, Russell Tabor, Cameron Bradbury, and Charles Haney. Honorary pallbearers will include: Hector Baeza, Stratten Abel, Stetsen Abel, Saxten Abel, Zadyn Lujan, Jacob Lujan, Deklyn McWilliams, Griffin McWilliams, Taylor Brown, and Brooks Bradbury.
