Jal Fire/EMS Leads 9/11 Remembrance

On Friday September 11, 2026, the 25th anniversary of the horrendous Islamic terrorist attacks on the United States of America, Jal Fire/EMS Department, as well as members of Jal Police Department, Mayor Philip Little, various citizens and city employees gathered at the Jal Fire/EMS Station to commemorate the lives lost on that fateful day.
Jal Fire/EMS Chief Whitney Moody gave the following remarks to those gathered:
“Today we come together to remember those lives lost on this day, September 11th, 2001. Many families mourn the lives lost of those in the towers, and the brave first responders that did not even second-guess running into the line of duty to do what they needed to do. America can be divided in so many ways…race, politics, religion. But on that day, I’d like to think that everyone was grieving for our country as one, we stood together as one. Maybe, as a nation, as a state, as a small town, we need to remember this often, and by being here today, we can use this time and this walk to remember how to come together.”
Following a prayer by Joe Cole, members of Jal Fire/EMS carried flag of the United States of America, as well as the Flag of the State of New Mexico, leading a procession of about 50 Jal citizens north from the Fire/EMS Building to Main Street, north to Union Ave, and then back southward on Main, returning to the starting point. The mood among the crowd was somber and respectful in light of the occasion, while also hopeful for the future of our great nation.
