Chloe Earp Returns from Missions Trip
By John Earp
Last week, Chloe Earp returned home after spending three months in Global Missions Training in the Philippines.
When asked what made her want to go on her missions training trip, she said, “Honestly, it makes sense. I’ve always loved or at least wanted to travel, and to tell people about Jesus, so it made sense to start training.” She first attended the phase one global missions training at the Church of God World Missions headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, which lasted one week. Chloe said, “We were being taught by different people who had worked as missionaries or in capacities that would be useful for missionaries. We learned about mythology, language acquisition training, fundraising, taking care of yourself while you’re on the field and off the field, various things like that. Her Philippines trip was phase two of missions training, which was a lot more hands-on, practical training, involving personally ministering in an immersive environment. She said, “This was really just a way to get us immersed into a completely different culture and see what it would be like to be a missionary.”
Describing the typical week during her three months in the Philippines, she said, “Sundays we would go to church and we would be there for the 7:30 a.m. service. Then the next service we would be helping out in the children’s ministry. Then after that service, we would help out in the café. Then we would have a break time and then certain Sundays we would either go home or go back to the Asian School of Christian Ministries, where we would be able to serve as ushers. Mondays were our Sabbaths, and so we were able to rest, get our finances taken care of, buy things that we needed to from the store, things like that. Tuesdays, we would typically leave in the morning and we would try to be there at about 7:00 a.m. giving out tracts on the street. Wednesdays, we were at the ASCM and we joined them for their chapel service, which happens once a week. Thursdays, we had a Bible study with some members of the capital in Cavite, which was the district that we were in. Thursday evenings, we would go to another place and we would serve either in children’s ministry or with ushering. Fridays, we had a Bible study with a group that we were a part of, and then Saturday mornings, we helped with a sidewalk Sunday school close to the mountains where we help kids in a very under-resourced area.
Chloe’s trip included a week in Tokyo, Japan as well as four weeks in Seoul, Republic of Korea. She says she has not yet decided if she will pursue the one-year internship program which would be phase three of the Global Missions Training offered by Church of God World Missions, but she is praying for God’s direction for her future. She thoroughly enjoyed her immersive missions training experience, especially trying to learn the language (Tagalog), as well as her time in Japan, where only 1% of the population identifies as Christian, and her time in Seoul, Korea, where she was involved with a local church and got to see many wonderful sights and met many beautiful people.
