
Lady Panthers Put Bobcats in Their Place

This past Monday evening in the Panther Gym, the Lady Panthers Basketball Team (17-11 overall; 6-5 in district; ranked 3rd in district) utterly dominated the Hagerman Lady Bobcats (3-22 overall; 0-10 in district; 6th place in district) in the first round of the District Tournament. In the first three minutes of the game, Lady Panthers dominated the Lady Bobcats, putting 11 points on the board, in the first three minutes.
The Lady Panthers continue to play their game on their terms, completely shutting the Lady Bobcats out in the first quarter, at the end of which the Lady Panthers led 19 to nothing. The Lady Panthers were significantly less successful in scoring in the second quarter, but nevertheless had continued to shut the Lady Bobcats out completely. At halftime, the score was 27-0 with the Lady Panthers continuing to completely dominate the Lady Bobcats. Hagerman put their first points on the board in the 3rd period with 6 and a half minutes remaining in the period. The Lady Panthers were leading 30 to 2.

The Lady Bobcats did a little bit better in the 3rd quarter, scoring 5 points. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Lady Panthers led 40 to 7. The Lady Panthers, had difficulty continuing the same kind of pace they had had in the 1st quarter. The Lady Bobcats, did better on the defensive side. Jal scored 10 points

The final score was 50-16 in the 1st round of the district tournament for Jal. Natalia Rivera led in scoring for the Lady Panthers, with a total of 13 points. Mayrin Nieto followed with 12 points for the night, and Kaedyn Lujan had 10. Abigail Dardon scored 7, followed by Johnna Butts with 6. Karisma Rodriguez scored 2.
