Earp Recognized by School Board

By John Earp

At the January 26th meeting of the Jal Board of Education, Elijah Earp was recognized for his recent achievement of taking first place in the Lea County Spelling Bee, which was held in the Tydings Auditorium on the campus of Hobbs High School. Earp was congratulated by members of the board as well as administrators that were present, including Principal Little, Associate Administrator Loftis, CTE Administrator Richard, Superintendent Brian Snider, as well as Coach Simmons. School board members present included Randy Chavez, Jaime Earp, and Jim Gooss, along with Amy Crawford, who attended remotely. Earp received a hand of applause from all present. When he was asked by Gooss if he was going to win the state bee in Albuquerque, Earp smiled and shrugged, saying he wasn’t sure whether he would win.
