Sauceda Says a Lot of Change Needs to Happen

By John Earp

Mr. Julian Sauceda is running for a seat on the Jal City Council. Sauceda is a lifelong resident of Jal, only moving away to serve in the U.S. Army for five years.

When asked what it was that made you want to run for city council, Sauceda said, “It was just a couple of people who came up to me and just telling me that there needs to be a change to the people that were up there, and they asked me if I should go for city council. And there is a lot of change that needs to happen around here, you know.”

When asked, “What are some of the changes that you would like to see if you get elected,” he said, “Just like Main Street right there, you know, where they’re doing all that storage of supplies and stuff over there on the corner in front of the community center. We need to get rid of all that stuff, just to clean up, you know. Clean up the city and yeah, and something to be done about all this traffic, you know, try to get a way to move it around instead of going through Jal, you know, in the middle of Jal.

When asked to share his personal background, Sauceda said, “I’ve lived here practically all my life except for the five years and a half that I was in the army. Went into the army right after high school, in ’92, got out in 97, November.” He worked in vehicle repair in the Army. Right now, well, I’m a third-party inspector for Energy Transfer. I’m working for FIS, Frontier Integrity Solutions.” Sauceda is married, with three girls and two granddaughters.

When asked what he thinks the city council should have as a priority, Sauceda said, “I think the priority also is contracting done around here. They should have a time limit on the jobs that they do instead of making a career at most of these jobs, you know, that are done.”

When asked, “If someone were to ask you, why should I give you my vote, what would you say?”, Sauceda replied, “Well, I’m just looking for a change here in Jal to make it better, make lives better around Jal. I hope to make the change that the people want around here and hope to get their vote, and everybody’s vote. That way we can make that change.”
