
Jal Woman Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot

May 2, 2025-On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Agents with the Lea County Drug Task Force conducted a joint operation with the Jal Police Department and Lea County Sheriff’s Office, in reference to a murder for hire investigation.
Jal Police Officers had previously responded to an incident where it was learned April Wilcox (45-year-old-female) of Jal, New Mexico had attempted to hire an individual to kill her ex-boyfriend. Jal Police Department requested the LCDTF to assist with the investigation. During the investigation, April contacted an Undercover Agent who was working in an undercover capacity as a “Hitman”. April met with the Undercover Agent and provided a partial payment to have her ex-boyfriend killed. After the Undercover Agent received payment, a crime scene was prepared, and a photo was provided to April as proof of the murder.
April met with the Undercover Agent a second time to pay the remaining balance for the murder. April was subsequently taken into custody by the Lea County Drug Task Force, Lea County Sheriff’s Office, and Jal Police Department.
April was transported to the Lea County Detention Center, where she was charged with First Degree Murder (Solicitation).
