Panthers thrash Bulldogs

By John Earp

Tuesday evening in the Junior High Gym, the Jal Junior High School Boys Basketball Team took on the Artesia Bulldogs. The Panthers were a much more skilled team all around than the Bulldogs, excelling in shooting, passing, stealing, and overall ball handling. At the end of the first period, the Panthers led 8-0. The Panthers repeated their first-period performance in the second period, as did the Bulldogs. At halftime, Jal led Artesia 16-0. The Bulldogs finally put one in the basket about halfway through the third period, with the Panthers leading 19-2. The Bulldogs finally began putting some points on the board in the final period, but unfortunately for them it was too little too late. Final score was 27-11. For the Panthers, Zaine Vega led in scoring with 7 points, followed by Ariel Lujan with 5. Landon Edwards, Xavier Franco, Jayden Cervantes and Jayton Butts each scored 2.
