Peugh competes at district XC meet
By John Earp
Last Saturday at the golf course at the Inn of the Mountain Gods near Ruidoso, Roy Peugh represented Jal Cross Country at the district meet. Coach Joe Cole said he was proud of the way Peugh persevered this season in cross country and was able to compete and finish and still run competitively at a higher altitude location like Ruidoso. Coach Cole, who has in the past completed both half and full marathons, tries to inspire his runners with the same love for running that he has had for years. This season, Cross Country running has not been a popular sport amongst students at Jal High School, but in years past it has had more than a dozen runners on the team, so there is hope that it will catch on in popularity once again. Having a high degree of aerobic capacity developed through running is important in most all other sports, as well as in overall health and wellness.
