Walker Mutton Bustin’ Champ once again

By John Earp

Last Friday, 8-year-old Jal resident, Gage Walker, competed and won the mutton bustin’ contest at the Big Spring Rodeo. This is his ninth time winning at mutton bustin’ in a rodeo. He has competed in twelve rodeos altogether. He will ride again this coming Saturday the 29th in Lubbock. His mom, Menda Vargas, says Gage has pretty much mastered the sport. He practiced when he first started mutton bustin’, but has not practiced since his first win. He has been riding since he was 5 years old, and plans to be a bull rider when he grows up. His favorite rodeo, according to mom, is the Lea County Rodeo.
