By John Earp

The basketball game Tuesday night between the Jal Panthers (10-10 overall; 2-1 in district) and the Hagerman Bobcats (6-16 overall; 1-4 in district) started off as a strong defensive ordeal, with few points scored in the first few minutes, with aggressive defense being shown by both sides. The Panthers started gaining offensive momentum about halfway through the first period, and by the end of the first period they led the Bobcats 16-9. The second period was mostly frustrating to watch. Neither team scored much, with numerous missed shots. In the middle of the period, both teams began scoring a bit more however, and by halftime, Jal led 27-16. Both teams scored 10 points in the third period. At the start of the fourth period, the Panthers led the Bobcats 37-26. Final score was 51-34.

Ito Arroyo led the Panthers with 11 points, followed by Adrian Rodriguez with 10, Gabriel Juarez with 9, Zadyn Lujan and Nolbert Cervantes with 7 each, and Brandon Houston with 6.
