Jal Powerlifting Team competes virtually against schools from across New Mexico

Last Thursday in the Panther Gym, the Jal High School Powerlifting Team competed virtually with teams from across the state, of all sizes of schools from A to 5A. Teams from Espanola, Santa Fe, Logan, Bernalillo, Lovington, Clayton, Silver City, Cleveland, Hatch, Roswell, Sandia, Hobbs, Santa Rosa and Shiprock participated in the event virtually, with all teams competing at their own gyms.

Senior Roger Carreon placed 1st in the 308-pound weight class with a squat of 405, a bench press of 275, and a deadlift of 475, for a total of 1155. Sophomore Jesus Carreon placed 4th in the 308-pound weight class with a squat of 365, a bench press of 205, and a deadlift of 405, for a total of 975. Senior Christian Houston placed 2nd in the super heavyweight class with a squat of 315, a bench press of 155, and a deadlift of 335, for a total of 805. Sophomore Luke Guinn placed 5th in the 123-pound weight class with a squat of 160, bench press of 85, and a deadlift of 185 for a total of 430. Senior Aidan Jamison placed 9th in the 132-pound weight class with a squat of 185, a bench press of 105, and a deadlift of 200 for a total of 490. Junior Andrae Conner placed 6th in the 148-pound weight class with a squat of 245, a bench press of 165, and a deadlift of 315, for a total of 725. Junior Isaiah Rodriguez placed 12th in the 148-pound weight class with a squat of 225, a bench press of 145, and a deadlift of 245, for a total of 615. Junior Jacob Lujan placed 6th in the 165-pound weight class with a squat of 335, a bench press of 135, and a deadlift of 345, for a total of 815. Freshman Cash Taylor placed 15th in the 198-pound weight class with a squat of 300, a bench press of 135, and a deadlift of 275, for a total of 710. Junior Alexavier Carreon placed 7th in the 220-pound weight class with a squat of 335, a bench press of 210, and a deadlift of 380, for a total of 925. Junior Trent Butts placed 8th in the 220-pound weight class with a squat of 335, a bench press of 195, and a deadlift of 350, for a total of 880. Freshman Elijah Chavez placed 7th in the 242-pound weight class with a squat of 300, a bench press of 185, and a deadlift of 305, for a total of 790.

On the girls’ side, Junior Priscilla Montoya placed 6th in the 132-pound weight class with a squat of 155, a bench press of 75, and a deadlift of 180, for a total of 410. Freshman Yamileth Lujan placed 8th in the 132-pound weight class with a squat of 125, a bench press of 55, and a deadlift of 170, for a total of 350. Junior Natiliee Nunez placed 5th in the 148-pound weight class with a squat of 135, a bench press of 85, and a deadlift of 220 pounds, for a total of 440. Junior Halee Edwards placed 6th in the 148-pound weight class with a squat of 155, a bench press of 80 and a deadlift of 195, for a total of 430. Senior Abigail Ramirez placed 2nd in the 165-pound weight class with a squat of 200, a bench press of 110, and a deadlift of 200, for a total of 510. Senior Kassandra Inglet placed 7th in the 165-pound weight class with a squat of 160, a bench press of 65, and a deadlift of 160, for a total of 385. Junior Aldora Farr placed 3rd in the 181-pound weight class with a squat of 95, a bench press of 60, and a deadlift of 180, for a total of 335. Senior Zayda Fuentes placed 6th in the 198-pound weight class with a squat of 155, a bench press of 65, and a deadlift of 195, for a total of 415. Eighth grader Ebany Aguilar placed 6th in the 198-pound weight class with a squat of 105, a bench press of 65, and a deadlift of 180, for a total of 350. Eighth grader Sadi Richard placed 2nd in the 220-pound weight class with a squat of 75, a bench press of 75, and a deadlift of 155, for a total of 305. Senior Jenny Canava placed 3rd in the 259-pound weight class with a squat of 185, a bench press of 90, and a deadlift of 210, for a total of 485. Senior Yesenia Bahena placed 1st in the super heavyweight class with a squat of 275, a bench press of 120, and a deadlift of 250, for a total of 485.

According to Coach Matt Mata, the next meet is to be held near the end of this month. It will also be a virtual meet.
