This past Monday night, at the Jal City Council meeting, Police Chief Mauricio Valeriano said the department was presently fully staffed, with seven certified officers and one uncertified officer. Valeriano said the department plans to send the new officer to the Hobbs Police Academy in August. Referring to JPD’s School Resource Officer, Valeriano said, “We have our guy at the school, [Officer Lee Flores] doing really good things. We’re able to have him work security detail for the basketball games, so there’s somebody always there, and that’s helping us a whole bunch and helping us build a better rapport with the community.”
