Culinary students prepare scrumptious eats for Next Step Bash

By John Earp

Last Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Jal High School Commons Area, 5th through 11th grade students and their parents attended a Next Step Bash hosted by the high school and catered by JHS Culinary, which is headed up by Ms. Bethany Ragland. The event was designed to bring parents and students together to receive their class schedules for the 2025-2026 school year. In the past, parents would get a call from the school to have a one-on-one session to go over their child’s schedule for the next year. Jal High School Principal Buddy Little is credited with coming up with the idea of having a Next Step Bash.

Some of the great food that students and their parents got to eat were street corn deviled eggs, cucumber with tajin and chamoy, salmon bites and tuna bites on cucumber slices, pesto basil pinwheels, little smokies in barbeque sauce, bread pudding, cake pops, homemade snickers, albondigas on Spanish rice, and “rattlesnake bites.” Staff also indulged in the excellent food.
